I am really starting to like “The L Word”

March 28, 2008

I was bored a couple of weeks ago and suddenly I found myself on the TV show “The L Word”.   Now, I have always had a soft spot for lesbians but I have to say I really enjoyed the show.   One week later there was nothing else on and suddenly I was getting into the characters!    I am getting hooked!

OSSLT and burgers

March 27, 2008

Today I went out to a high school for OSSLT testing.   What is an OSSLT?   It is a literacy test that every grade 10 student must pass to graduate high school.   I helped scribe for a girl today, her name was Amber Rose (I know sounds like a stripper, she looks trashy enough to become one later) and she actually told me she didn’t need my help.    That meant I had to sit there beside her for over two hours watching her write the test.    While at the school I saw other students acting quite immature and I wondered about our planet’s future.   Could some of this people actually be our future leaders?   I think the school is in an alright part of town so no generalizations should be made.  I really wondered as I sat there and heard some girl use the n-word in a school.    It was troubling.

After leaving the school at lunch time to go back to the office i decided to stop at Harvey’s on the way.   I didn’t see their “Valu burger” or whatever they call it on the menu but I saw something else interesting.    I had a triple decker burger.   I have eaten a lot of things in my life but I don’t remember ever eating a burger of this size.   It was filling and got messy.   But I thought it was good practice for when WIGSF and I go looking for Toronto’s BEST burger.   I was thinking this sunday would be the perfect day to do this.

Baseball has begun!!

March 26, 2008

I woke up yesterday, went to work and then found out that the MLB season has begun!   I didn’t know that the games in Japan were this early.   I was lucky, didn’t hurt my fantasy team.    I am excited about the upcoming season because the Yanks are older, I still can’t see how the Red Sox win so many games and the Jays may actually be more talented than last year!   Now you are probably asking yourself, does Bob actually think the Jays are going to take the East, the answer is NO.   They are injury prone when it comes to their hitters but I think they will make the season exciting.   Also just thinking of baseball makes me think of fresh cut grass and the sun shining down on you.    Now it is prediction time: I expect the Mets to beat the Tigers in the World Series.

Jericho is finished!

March 25, 2008

I never wanted to get into the show but my brother likes the actor Skeet Ulrich.   It was an interesting show that caught my interest.   I was really disappointed when it was cancelled last year but not enough to send nuts into CBS.   I am fine with it being cancelled a 2nd time now.   All I really wanted was for the show to have an ending.   It will have an ending tonight and that is all I ask for from any show I watch.   A planned ending.   Thank you CBS for bringing Jericho back and giving us an ending.   It had a good run and the shortened 2nd season was great.

30 Days of Night and Gary Busey

March 23, 2008

I saw the movie 30 Days of Night this weekend.   I had read the graphic novel years ago and was interested in seeing the movie.   The movie disappointed.   For a movie that claims to taking place at night, there is a lot of light in the movie.   Also didn’t seem to have enough suspense.   The movie was quite predictable overall.   I couldn’t figure out if it was because it was a bad movie or because I had read the book in the past.   Two days later… I can tell you it is because it is a bad movie.   I re-read the book.   Most of the characters from the movie are not in the book.   It had been so long since i read the book I didn’t remember much but I remembered that I liked it.   Now comparing the two, I think the movie should have had more suspenseful deaths and shouldn’t have had so many characters.   The book actually only really developed the sheriff couple (they were married in the book).   They took a lot of lines straight from the book which now that I am looking back… some of them didn’t fit with the movie anymore.

Now some of you are probably asking yourself, what does Gary Busey have to do with this?   Is he in the movie?   No he isn’t but I am not sure if you have heard but Busey went insane a few years back.   Whenever you see pictures of him now his hair is all crazy too.    Well my cat is old and I think he is going nuts too.   On top of that he is having trouble with his hair so I decided this weekend that my new nickname for him is “Gary Busey”.

Bacon day and HIMYM

March 17, 2008

I have to say, Bacon Day was a success!   I actually had less bacon than I thought I did so i went through it pretty quick.   The sad news is that the person who expressed interest in visiting for bacon, stood me up.   Hell they hung up on me yesterday (for the 2nd day in a row!)!

Today is St. Pattie’s Day, which means that the Toronto Raptors should be wearing green jerseys tonight and HIMYM is returning!   To see clips from the episode go here:  http://tv.yahoo.com/how-i-met-your-mother/show/38167/videos

HIMYM News!

March 12, 2008

Not good news but some casting news:  Britney Spears is going to be guest-starring in an episode.   She plays a receptionist who wants Ted.   It is funny to read about how people are talking like she is an actress or something.   I guess there could be some good news coming from this, it could get HIMYM some good ratings and help it get re-newed!

Bob’s Quest for an X-Box

March 11, 2008

I like my PS2 but maybe it has to do with the fact that I miss my brother who moved away but I want an x-box.   If I get it then I can play the games with him online and when he isn’t on I can play games that remind me of the fun times we had.    Also so many of my friends have x-boxs so I can also play with them!    But I am not made of money.   So I can’t just go out and buy one.    I have been waiting for price drop and I heard that one might be coming soon.   Now I just need to find the money.   One way I might be able to is to use my winnings from gambling.   Mind you I haven’t won anything yet but I am in a “Survivor” pool for hockey and I have lasted three weeks now.   There are only 100 people left that I have to outlast with $4000 on the line.    I also could start selling stuff.   I have a number of collectibles I could try to sell in an effort to make me a couple hundred bucks.   My quest begins today!

OBAY Ads

March 7, 2008

Have you seen the OBAY ads on the subway or on the buses?   They claim to be a drug that parents should give their children so that they can learn what is “good for them”.   We know this drug doesn’t really exist so I decided to look at the ads up close.   I looked for what they were really selling.   I could not find it.

Well ALL of the ads have been updated.   There is now a “piece of paper” over the old ad and the paper says something like this: “Your children have minds of their own, you need to let them make their own decisions.   Let them decide what college to go to by going to ontariocolleges.ca”

Random Thoughts

March 6, 2008

I was reading an article last night, the Power Rangers have been on for 14 seasons and have had 12 different versions of the show over that time.    Are children’s attention spans so poor that they need to change the show on an almost annual basis?

I was in a school the last couple of days helping out with an in-service about a huge student database.   As I was typing random names from my past into the database I was reminded of a couple of things:

 - My Dad’s cousin had a couple of kids, they were black but both him and his woman were white.   When I was a kid my parents somehow convinced me the situation was alright but at this moment I can see why the marriage didn’t work and why I never see any of them anymore.

- I was reminded of some old neighbours of ours.   I looked them up on FACEBOOK and found them.   Might be nice to go down memory lane.
