Raising the Bar

July 31, 2009

My brother told me I should watch the show.   I watched the first season and it really annoyed me.   It isn’t a bad show but the main character (Zack Morris) was the worst part of the show.   This isn’t an insult to Zack’s acting, he is probably doing a fine job but his character is a defence lawyer who dresses sloppy, seems un-prepared for cases and always needs help on cases.    And yet all the other characters on the show claim he is a great lawyer.    They even refer friends to him.    It is stupid, I would never want the guy to be my lawyer.

I am suspending posting the Bro Code.   I will talk about why, I am doing so later.

Vacation!

July 29, 2009

I have been on vacation at home the last couple of days.   I have two weeks off, this is the longest vacation I get from work all year.   I have been doing a mix of relaxing and chores.   Yesterday I got a lot of stuff done around the house.   Two things i need to do more of:  Exercising and going out on the town!

Bro Code Article #9: Should a Bro lose a body part due to an accident or illness, his fellow Bros will not make lame jokes such as “Gimme three!” or “Wow, quitting your job like that really took a lot of ball.”  It’s still a high five and that Bro still has a lot of balls… metaphorically speaking, of course.

Rejected!

July 28, 2009

So that girl I went out with a week or two ago, she wasn’t interested in another date.    I wasn’t that interested in her so no big loss.

Bro Code #51: “A Bro checks out another Bro’s blind date and reports back with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down.”

New addition to my blog

July 27, 2009

Every time I have a blog entry I am going to end with a random Article from “The Bro Code”.    Here is Article #62:

”In the event that two Broslock on to the ame target, the Bro who calls dibs first has dib.   If both call dibs at the same time, the Bro who counts aloud to ten the fastest has dibs.   If both arrive at the number ten at the same time, the Bro who bought the last round of drinks has dibs.   If they haven’t purchased drinks yet, the taller of the two bros has dibs.   If they’re the same height, the Bro with the longer dry spell has dibs.   Should the dry spells be of equal length, a game of discreet Broshambo (rock, paper, scissors) shall determine dibs, provided the chick is still there.”

It is funny that one could come in play since I called “Dibs” on Boston’s new neighbour.

Boston Pizza’s new menu

July 23, 2009

It is not “lunch” friendly.   They got rid of half their lunch menu.   Also prices have seemed to go up across the board.   The few lunch specials they have, all of them are listed as “1/2″ portions.    That makes a little bit of sense except for the pricing, a 1/2 portion is 6.95 at lunch but a full portion is only 10.99.    That isn’t much of a difference.     When I went there for lunch yesterday I was very disappointed but we still stayed and had the appy platter.

Editor’s Note:  I thought I published this blog a long time ago, I even said to the Twins and WIGSF that they should have been paying attention to my blog.   I now need to apologize to them.   I am sorry WIGSF.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent Problems

July 22, 2009

I have been annoyed with Criminal Intent this year.   I have never liked the pre-credits scenes, this year they have gotten noticeable longer.   I decided to check the time when the credits started on last night’s episode, it was six minutes into the episode.   6 minutes of a 40 minute TV show.   Am I crazy or is that A LOT?    At least on L&O Prime, we always got to see the main cop characters just before the credits but this show doesn’t give us the main characters, they just keep jumping around from scene to scene trying to let you make connections.    The show angers me.

Shaq finally gets his own TV show!!!

July 21, 2009

Our wish has finally been fulfilled.

“The NBA superstar will star in “Shaq Vs.,” a TV series where the 15-time all-star centre will challenge top athletes in their respective sports. During one episode, which debuts on Aug. 18 on ABC, Shaq will swim against Olympic superstar Phelps.

O’Neal, now with the Cleveland Cavaliers, also will try his football skills against Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, box retired world champion Oscar De La Hoya, bat against St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols, trade tennis volleys with Wimbledon champ Serena Williams and play volleyball against Olympic gold medallists Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor.

O’Neal will negotiate a handicap with his opponents and train with a coach for one week leading up to each challenge.”

I am excited, are you?

The quote is from a Toronto Star article.

“I have been set-up!” – Part 3

July 20, 2009

I think it is part 3 now, I am not sure.   After losing in the baseball tournament, I had nothing to do yesterday.   I was sitting around my place relaxing, cleaning up and watching the Tudors when my phone rang and my parents and Grandfather all invited me to an Italian picnic.   My Dad warned me over the phone that the girl my Grandfather has been trying to set me up with, she is sitting at the same table as them.   I was immediately embarassed.   I said, “Tell me you aren’t saying this in front of her” my Dad said it was a long table.    I got off the phone, I was a mess, unshaved, ripped t-shirt.    I considered, do I go to this thing hang out with my Grandparents and try to make sure nobody embarasses themselves with this whole thing?    Or do I continue to sit at home, relax, hit the gym and tidy up.

My place is a mess right now, yes I went to the picnic.   What was funny was that the girl left 5 minutes after I arrived.   I am pretty sure it wasn’t because of me because I was told that she was leaving before she actually met me.   When she did come to the table, I shook hands and introduced myself.    So I ended up sitting there playing cards with my family, eating good food and being very polite to her parents and trying to make sure that my Mother didn’t do anything stupid (she tried, she was loud when talking about the girl).    My Mom wants me to get the girl’s phone number but I still believe she is out of my league and well… she is an Italian girl from Woodbridge, I think we know what her type is.

Saturday baseball tournament

July 19, 2009

Had a baseball tournament yesterday.   Second one this year.   This one wasn’t far away it was in Markham.   We played three games, the first one wasn’t until almost noon.   Didn’t have to get up early.   In our first game our fielding wasn’t very good and we got beat bad.   In the 2nd game we believed we were facing the best team, we went in with low expectations and we got the win!    In the last game we thought we were facing the worst team… and we might have been right except in the end, we ended up being the worst team because we lost to them.   I hit horrible.   My fielding was fine.   Our infield needs a lot of work, hopefully they are resting up for next week’s games.   I was not in charge on the weekend, my brother was.   He hit very well.   He had 3 home runs in the last game and knocked in 6 of our 10 runs.   Might play in a one-day tournament next saturday too but that one will be at York where we know the teams and know what to expect.   These teams yesterday, some of them were crazy.   They let the ump have it all day.   A more experienced ump wouldn’t have taken the abuse and would have thrown a lot of players out.   Some people need to get lives and remember the love for the game and that it is all for fun.

When do I call?

July 16, 2009

I went on a date on tuesday.   Although I think it went well, there were some signs at the end there that I might have been wrong.   How long do I wait before I call?    Do I call or do I just send a friendly email or text?
