Kids don’t know what a walkman is?

Campbell went on to criticize the portable cassette player’s size, appearance, functionality and the “hissy backtrack and odd warbly noises.”

Even when he discovered the cassette had more music on the other side (it took him three days), Campbell was still disappointed it could only hold a small fraction of what an iPod can.

Ouch.”

Are kids that out of touch that they don’t know what tapes are and don’t understand how far technology has come over the last 30 years?    I guess we should just feel blessed that we have seen a lot of the technological advancements as they happened.

    Technological advancements = socialogical distractions

I still listen to audio cassettes from time to time.

I read that article a couple of days ago and came to the same conclusions. Heck, tell a kid today that phones used to have to be dialed and hard wired to the wall, that there were no cell phones, no internet, no CDs, DVDs, no microwaves, no satellite TV, and they’ll think you lived in the stone age.

It wasn’t that long ago, and I’m not sure that all technology has made life better. I think it’s made us more impatient on several levels, and more selfish – we’re so caught up with the, “I want it NOW” attitude because we’re ABLE to have it now. Sometimes the wait can be a valuable lesson and I think we’ve lost that.
