When I was a kid in school we'd have earthquake drills. We'd have to duck under our desks and wait there. And in all the years I was in school there, there was never a quake during school hours, only at night.

Next time, you'll know to turn off the ringer on your cell. ;)

Okay, first of all, taking drills seriously is important, but then, companies (and municipal authorities) have to recognize this is a business and the employees are more concerned with doing their jobs than they are with the drill.

You're right; those who don't take it seriously will be sorry for not doing so when/if the time comes to face a reality. I see this a lot with fire drills. People aren't going to want to be disrupted by a fire drill. Where I've worked, lots of companies assign some of their employees to usher you out of the place during drills, to make sure you're at least taking that part seriously. No one can make another person grow up and act like an adult, but they can fine you for being an ass about it.

The story about you being under the desk and the phone making the noise was hysterical. I'd love to write a story with that as the premise. Awesome.

That was a great lockdown. I entered the nearest office that was un-locked. The owner of the office wasn't in it. It was just me and a secretary. She tried calling someone else in but eventually we were forced to lock the door. I was happy with the room I ended up in, there was tons of chocolate. Eventually the owner of the room ended up knocking on it wondering why it was locked. He was with two other employees. We weren't sure if we were suppose to but we let them in. They had gotten caught outside not taking the lockdown serious.

Meanwhile, my brother had emailed me just before the lockdown. I told him I would have to get back to him because of the lockdown. He asked what it was. While in the room, I texted him letting him know what it is. That was a mistake. At one point the security people were doing a sweep of the floor. We could see their shadows under the door. We got really quiet in the room. It was at that moment, when my brother texted me back and my phone made a loud noise. It that wasn't a drill I might have gotten us all killed. Lesson learned.

Still waiting, it hasn't happened yet. I like that they are surprising us. Rachel if you think about it, with high schools, the threat of someone bringing a gun into a school is a real one. Students and staff need to be prepared for this kind of threat. The term "lockdown" sounds more hardcore than maybe is needed but I guess that is their way of trying to get people to take it serious.

I understand the necessity of a "lockdown" but sometimes it still seems kind of silly to me, useful only in event of ebola or zombie apocalypse.

The pillow and blankie idea sounds good to me!

I'd say you're doing great if you can type all that with a finger or 2 out of commission!

I'm sorry you got hurt, and glad you're on the mend. You must really love you some b-ball if you're playing again before you're totally healed. That's commitment.

So many great lines (WIGSF don't watch they spoil stuff), remember the "There are no more heroes left" from the first one. Or how about the following one:

Glad you didn't break your finger!

And I love the LW movies. I have a particular fondness for #3. And of course, my favorite line from all of them is "I'm too old for this shit."

I never noticed how much I use that finger until I hurt. Things like starting up my car or unzipping my jacket pocket to get my house keys has become a lot tougher. I think the fact that the swelling has gone down and I am getting more range of motion shows that the injury wasn't that bad. My co-workers and doctor just freaked me out.

Speaking about the LW franchise, I agree completely. I love all 4 of the movies, but I am not going to force him to watch all 4, I know they get more campy and family friendly as they go on but the first two were sick and he should at least give the first one a chance. I count it as a Christmas movie so maybe I can get him to see it during the holiday season.
