Nip/Tuck is back, which means Matt is going to find a new level of ****ing up!

October 21, 2009 by Bob

I saw the season premiere of Nip/Tuck last week, man it was good.   I forgot how much I miss these guys.   Mario Lopez and Rose McGowen have joined the show.    One person I have not missed is Matt.   Man, I don’t want to spoil stuff but I have to so if you care about the show and don’t want to be spoiled stop reading now.    Matt is living with his Dads and he decided to try a new occupation.   He has decided he wants to be a mime.   I will give you a minute to consider this.

So there Matt is on Venice Beach, with mime make-up doing stupid stuff.   I know, I know.   He gets his ass robbed and ends up trying to buy a drink at the end of the day.   He tries to order the drink without talking.   The woman behind the counter was not impressed, I wanted to hit him through the computer screen.    In the end, Matt found that he didn’t have enough money for the drink, tried being cute in order to still get the drink and he was un-successful.   He must have been really thirsty because he pulled his prop gun out and held the diner up.

Linda Hunt and Newman guest-starred in the episode and Julia was back in New York with the other two children, let’s hope she stays there.   Episodes are on wednesdays.

Free Chicken

October 20, 2009 by Bob

I haven’t been to KFC in over a year.   In a couple of weeks they will be giving away free chicken.   I just might have to visit them for that.   On Nov. 1 they are giving away free Boneless Chicken Fillets between 2-4 pm.   If you are still in line and they run out of fillets or the promotion ends then you get a raincheck.   Limit of one fillet per customer.

A new Poutine Restaurant

October 19, 2009 by Bob

At least it is new to me.   I think it has only been in Toronto for about a year but there are a couple of locations.   I almost suggested going there saturday night but then decided against it because of our overall health.   It is called “Smoke’s Poutinerie”.  They have almost 20 different types of Poutine on their menu.   Here is the website: http://smokespoutinerie.com/

Here is an exerpt from a Toronto Star review that you can find through the website:

Most people would want to consume fries on the spot, but a good chunk of the crowd are bringing the murderous mounds back to their cubicles.

True to the young man’s word, the gravy and cheese remain warm 10 minutes later and some of the fries are even still crispy.

Often I eat alone in restaurants. Like a sassy, undersexed sitcom neighbour, I do a lot of eavesdropping. Two topics keep coming up at Smoke’s.

One is that the portions are large. True, I notice, glancing around the room, that these portions are rarely finished. The second topic is the drunkard’s relationship to the dish. Often overheard are comments like “This would be so good if I were drunk,” or “The best poutine I ever had was at so-and-so’s, though I was really drunk.”"

O’Bobaghue’s

October 16, 2009 by Bob

I heard a couple of years ago that my cousin openned up a bar down in the ‘chi.  He already had a carpenter’s business and a bed and breakfast.   I thought the bar was a small business, just a hobby or something.   But when I went there my first night there, it was wall-to-wall people.  There was a cover.   There was a live band playing and lots of beer flowing.

We ended up at the bar all three nights (even after the wedding reception).  The third night we went with our uncle (father of the owner) who even paid cover (some guy tried stopping us from paying cover after the fact but we said forget it).   That night we also saw the newly married couple at the bar.   It was fun seeing my cousin’s business doing so well.    Some pretty girls there too.   Hopefully the above pictures are posted fine.

Zombieland

October 15, 2009 by Bob

After getting to New Brunswick and getting settled in, I told you we went to see a movie, the movie we went to see the movie Zombieland.  Now my brother had already seen the movie, but he enjoyed it so much that he wanted us all to go see it.   So myself and two of our cousin’s kids joined my brother at the movie theatre.   We arrived in the theatre 5 minutes before showtime and the theatre wasn’t even 20% full (we arrived that late because we had to stop at Bulk barn before going to the theatre).   The kids weren’t kidding when they said we didn’t have to rush to get there.   But enough about that, now to the movie itself:

- I like Woody, he can be funny.   He was funny in this movie.

- I like Jessie Eisenberg.   My brother calls him the poor man’s Michael Cera but I have seen Eisenberg do his thing before Cera made it big.

- I love the “Rules” Eisenberg’s characters have for Zombieland.  I love how any time somebody broke a rule, the rule was put on in the background.

- I loved the special cameo in the movie and the funny scenes they had with the actor.

Overall it was an enjoyable movie.   I am not saying it is “the best” or anything and really it was probably more enjoyable for me because I have been playing a zombie video game lately.   Also the trailers before the movie, they were all “end of the world” type movies, one of the was called “The Road”, it looked like a really good one.   Viggo was in it.

No music stores in the ‘Shi

October 14, 2009 by Bob

My cousin’s kids are really into music.   The middle kid, he has posters of KISS, the Rolling Stones and MegaDeath on his walls.   All three boys play instruments and I think one or two of them are in bands.   I offered to drive one of them to the mall so that they could go to the music store.   That was when I found out that the music store in the mall had closed down.  There was no longer any music stores in the town.   He said he had to shop for music at Walmart.   I couldn’t believe that.   I remember at least two music stores back in the day.   Also another implication you can get from this blog is the fact that there may be no records being sold in the town either.   I even remember an antiques store that had records in it, that place had also closed down.    It was sad, I am not a big music consumer but to see kids like this not able to go into a record/music store, it just seems like a crime.   We joked about openning up a music store there, but my brother pointed out that Walmart could probably put us out of business with their buying power.

Blogging about the Thanksgiving Weekend

October 13, 2009 by Bob

I went to New Brunswick for the Thanksgiving Weekend.   A cousin of mine was getting married.   I got a lot of material from being out there, if I had written it all down then I would be able to guarntee a full “theme” week but I didn’t write anything so I can’t make guarntees but I will try.

My brother and I left Toronto at 6am friday morning by plane.   We didn’t get a lot of sleep.   We arrived in Moncton and I drove the rental car.   My brother wanted to go to Pizza Delight’s lunch buffet.   I wasn’t that hungry but I don’t remember ever eating at the place so I went along with it.   We drove about an hour and a half to my Mother’s hometown.  We stopped in with relatives, got settled in at one of my cousin’s places then we decided to go out to a movie with my cousins kids.   After the movie, we went out with our cousin’s ex-boyfriend.   I know how that sounds.   I hadn’t seen the guy since my cousin and him broke up but it seems my brother stayed in contact with him.    We went out to a couple of bars together and ended up playing some pool.   I didn’t have my best games but I was good enough to win a few games.   Walked back to the house in the rain.

The next day we slept in and only got up two hours before the wedding.   We made it there on-time looking awesome (while we were suited up, others were not).   The wedding started late, which actually had my brother get excited.   He felt he would make fun of my cousin if one of them didn’t show up.   This made him happy.   Of course they both did show up and the wedding went off without a hitch.

On sunday we had Thanksgiving Dinner with one uncle and our cousins.    We also found the time to visit some other uncles we have down there.    Our flight was at 6:30 am in Moncton monday morning.   We had to get up at 3:30 am and drive to Moncton, when I say “We” I mean me, at least when it comes to the driving.    We got in early monday morning, I believe it was 8:30 am eastern.    This gave us time to go home, have a nap before going to my Grandparents for yet another Thanksgiving dinner.

Guess who?

October 8, 2009 by Bob

Yesterday I saw a Toronto TV personality (technically two of them).   I was in a store I go in every wednesday and while I was browsing I saw a beautiful redhead with her boyfriend/husband talking with the owner of the store.   When I got to the checkout line, they were still talking with storeowner.   This time I really looked at the couple because I was joining the conversation.   That was when I recognized the woman.   She was from TV, she was married to a popular TV personality.    I looked at the guy beside her and thought to myself, “That must be him!”   Now I know what you are thinking, if he is a well known Canadian TV personality, then shouldn’t I know what he looks like?    No, to my knowledge this guy has never shown his face on camera.    I think I have left a lot of clues in here, do you know who I met yesterday?
