It finally happened!

Remember this entry: http://whataboutbobb.wordpress.com/2008/02/29/the-showdown/

A friend from my baseball team decided to attempt it. I decided to order it too just to show him some support. I wasn’t planning on trying to finish it in 7 minutes but I wanted to finish it. My buddy got off to an early lead as he eat all the fries in something like 2 minutes. The actual “burger” was actually just 3 burgers not a giant one like I expected. So we both separated them. Another baseball teammate filmed the whole thing (my friend, not me, nobody paid attention to me). The waitress was really into it and we started cheering him on. If Chuck Swirsky was there, he would have pulled out the salami and cheese. BUT alas my friend was not able to do it in time. He had I think 3/4 of a burger left. Later on a guy at bar attempted it. We cheered him on but he didn’t do any better. Actually after the time was up he disappeared. He returned a few minutes later wobbling back and forth looking like he was going to collapse.

What about Justine Henin?

May 14, 2008 by Bob

Do you know who she is? Have you ever heard of her? She is the #1 female tennis player in the world right now and she just retired at the young age of 25. Yeah, that is right, retired at 25. While that is young, I have to say, she has gone through a lot in her young life:

- Mother died of cancer when Justine was 12.
- Became estranged from her father and siblings for a decade when they didn’t approve of her boyfriend.
- Got married at the young age of 20
- Got divorced last year after 5 years of marriage.
- Reconciled with her family last year.

She is having no farewell tour, her retirement is immediate, she is saying fatigue is the main factor. I can see why after all the things I listed about her. She was (and technically still is) a damn good tennis player, a cutie and a fun person to watch play. She will be missed but I wish her the best of luck in the future. Oh and if Justine is reading this, call me, I am single. ;)

A day without my glasses

May 13, 2008 by Bob

I forgot my glasses at home one day last week. For many people this would be a no-brainer but my prescription isn’t that strong (I am actually thinking I am going to where them less). I was fine driving to work although I knew I was blinking and such a lot. It wasn’t until when I left work that I had a problem. It was raining. I pulled out an old pair of glasses I found in my trunk and drove home fine. But overall not a lot changed without my glasses. I never wear them at work they just sit on my desk. Like i said, it isn’t a strong prescription and I just can’t see long distances away so I use them for driving. Not sure what the point of this blog is… maybe it is to announce that I will be wearing glasses less.

Savages in this town…

May 12, 2008 by Bob

My brother got a new bike off of ebay or something.   He biked over to Dufferin Mall last week.   He locked it in a rack with over a dozen other bikes.   When he came back out it was gone.  His lock was cut.  He told this story at a family gathering this weekend and my Grandfather chuckled and said the same thing happened to my Dad at Dufferin Plaza (Dufferin Mall before it was big enough to be considered a mall) when he was young.

Yesterday my brother saw his bike locked up by a subway station. My brother’s first instinct was to steal it back. He called my Dad or something and my Dad suggested calling the cops. Cops came and said that they couldn’t do anything about it because my brother didn’t report it stolen. They said that he should have just stole it back. My brother ended up taking the seat off of it and taking the air out of the tires.

Savages in this town. You are on your own out there in the jungle called Toronto.

One Hit Wonders

May 9, 2008 by Bob

That is the name of a 3-pitch team I joined. The captain of the team is an ex-baseball teammate from 5 years ago. He isn’t very organized and lets people just pick whatever position in the field. This lead to some horrible results. He did put me in the leadoff position which was surprising. On the first pitch I saw, I hit a home run to RF. My next two at-bats weren’t as impressive as I popped out and hit a screamer down the 3rd base line that could have been a home run if it wasn’t called foul. I only played two or three innings in the field, I didn’t have the ball hit to me once. One inning when I was sitting off I was standing in the doorway of the dugout hands in my pockets leaning a bit on the fence. A female teammate was standing behind me. She is a cutie: tall, blonde, from the Netherlands. Any ways, a ball is hit to the shortstop who throws it to first. I see the 1st baseman start to reach and then I see the ball just going over his glove. My hands are in my pockets, I don’t have time to catch the ball. I barely have time to dodge it… if i wanted to. I took the hit to protect the girl behind me. It hit me in the left elbow. It didn’t swell much because I iced it but it still stings. I think I am going to get to know this girl better.

Tuesday Recap

May 7, 2008 by Bob

Too many little blog items to separate into separate blogs so I want to blog about yesterday overall:

- I am getting a new cellphone. The one I have right now, I have had it for over 2 years and the antenna is broken. Rogers is offering some discount off of a new phone. I was told I could pick it up at any Rogers outlet so I went to the mall. The guy was very helpful there but when he found out I have a corporate account he told me he couldn’t help me because that location doesn’t have the right permissions. He tells me about a rogers store that they are affliated with just 2 minutes away from the mall. I ask them if they are still open and the guy says “Yes”. So I go there and find the the place CLOSED. My last ditch effort was to go to a Rogers video store. We went into one and the guy said he also didn’t have the correct permissions to access corporate accounts but he might have been able to get around it if we had come in earlier because somebody would have picked up at Rogers. I don’t blame any of these guys behind the desk but the person who told me over the phone that I could set this up anywhere, I am not happy with them.

- The “Swirsk” is leaving the GTA to go to Chicago. This makes me sad. He says it is for family reasons but I read a news article from Chicago that doesn’t mention that angle. Chuck Swirsky has been doing the play-by-play for the Toronto Raptors for 10 years. He brought an excitement level that I think was un-paralleled. Were his jokes corny? Yes but that was part of his charm and for the sport to grow here in Canada, the Raptors need more guys like Chuck. Chuck loved it here so much that earlier this year he became a Canadian citizen. I hope that whatever family obligations he has in Chicago isn’t too serious and I wish him the best of luck, he will be missed.

- Cyber Empires cheats. I think I remembered why I usually pick the black fist to be my army because it usually makes its moves first. Let me explain, I am beside a country with my enemies in it. I choose to attack them. I expect when we actually go to war, that I will be attacking them, not defending myself from their attack. I like being on the offensive. This hurts me in some situations when I try to attack and get out of a certain country and before I can, I get attacked by a different country and suddenly find my cyborgs at half strength when they finally go on the offensive. Has any one else noticed this problem?

Knights Softball has Begun!

May 6, 2008 by Bob

My softball season began last night. I was in mid-season form going 4-4 with 3 runs scored. The knee brace caused no problems at all. This is a tough year for the Knights as we lost 3 of our top 5 hitters in the offseason. We are trying to replace them but it is tough especially since one of them was our starting pitcher. So in the end, I am happy to say we lost but it wasn’t a blowout or anything. We lost 21-15. We were also missing a girl last night and had to play short in the field. Good effort by everyone. Our next game is on the 15th.

IRON MAN was GOLD!

May 5, 2008 by Bob

IRON MAN SPOILERS AHEAD!

I saw latest blockbuster “Iron Man” this weekend with my Dad.   I really enjoyed it.  Robert Downey Jr. was awesome.    He is starting to become a favourite actor of mine.   Jeff Bridges was also in it and he was great as the villain.   The movie had a lot of comedy which I always like in these types of movies.    I was reading tonight, the movie has done very well this weekend.   It has had the 2nd biggest opening weekend of a non-sequel movie.   The only movie it is behind is his buddy’s movie: Spider-man but it still looks like it has grossed 100 million already.   This pretty much guarntees that their will be a sequel (which wasn’t a stretch since Marvel comics has made sequels of their flops too).   There were hints that they already have plans for the sequel.   One such hint was a scene after the credits which involved the character Nick Fury who was played by Samuel L. Jackson in a cameo role.

My neighbour is a lunatic

May 2, 2008 by Bob

I live in a condo, so technically I have a lot of neighbours. And I guess if you think about it then it would only make sense that some of my neighbours would be crazy lunatics but this story is only about one of them.

Every time I see this woman in the elevator she is bitching about something. She says she has been in the building since the beginning and the place is a shit-hole. I want grab the woman and say, “If it is a shit-hole then why are you still living here?”

So any ways, a couple of mornings this week we left the parking lot at the same time. Yesterday a km or 2 from our place she started to merge into my lane without signaling right into the front of my car. I honked and slowed down so she can continue further down the road away from me but I know that as long as she is in the same building as me, there will be another day and another possible confrontation with my neighbour who is a lunatic.

Coming home today

May 1, 2008 by Bob

My parents are coming home today. I am over-joyed because it was getting tiring trying to keep up with my place (which I didn’t) and checking on Boots and the house almost every day. I can tell you this, Boots will be over-joyed to see them. They might not be over-joyed to see him because I think he has developed some bad habits since they left. But hopefully he sleeps more mornings now. My parents went on what my brother called “A pirate cruise” that started in Florida and ended up in Spain.
