This Week in Softball

My sunday team has lost 3 of the last 4 games.   So much for our unbeaten record.   We have a lot of things to work on.   We are still over .500 and I am hoping the loss yesterday will be our low point of the season.

The friday team played well for the first half of the season, we had the best offence in the league.   But with a couple of players missing our offence has stalled the last two games and we lost what was TWO very winnable games.   I also have not played well in either league at this point.

In the weekday league we had a big argument mid-game between two of our players.   The team morale was at an all-time low.   The team captains worked hard during the week to try and mend things and on monday we played quite well, we lost by 1 run to the best team in the league and blew out the worst team…. and none of us argued with each other!   Hopefully the good feelings carry over from monday to our games this weekend!

Oh and I hit well on monday.   I am hitting well in the weekday league but not the others… I am not sure why.

Hm. Interesting. I would have thought, until I started reading your blog, that “team captains” were sort of like class presidents in school. But maybe there’s more to it than that. See, I’ve never played adult-league sports, so I have no experience. I figured without a “boss” of some kind no one would listen to a captain, because of the way people are (all about “me” type attitudes, overall). Nice to know I was incorrect! Another reason to like team sports!

Somebody needs to be in charge! The captains are like “class presidents” in the sense that we vote on them before the season. But somebody needs to make the decision on what the line-up will look like. They also have to find emergency players when the team is short and be the contact person for the league office.

Oh, I’m sorry about those losses! No fun, for sure.

But I bet you guys will bounce back! Great job on everyone being able to play with no arguing in that other game too. That shows real team spirit. 🙂

Maybe you’re too wound up for the weekend games and that’s why you don’t hit as well? Hmm, that’s an interesting observation you’ve made. I bet you’ll figure it out too.

It must be really hard to play in the heat like this. Do you guys have any indoor places you can practice or anything like that?
